About Judge Darvas
Judge Andrea Darvas (ret) brings decades of legal and judicial experience to her work in mediation, arbitration, and litigation consulting. She is dedicated to offering lawyers and litigants a dispute resolution process that is fair, collaborative, confidential, and cost-effective as an alternative to the risks and uncertainties of a courtroom trial.
From her 20 years as a Superior Court Judge, Judge Darvas understands that each case involves a unique set of people and circumstances, with issues and goals that are highly personal to the parties. She believes mediation is a process where those personal issues and goals can be heard and honored in ways that may not be possible under the strict dictates of courtroom rules and procedures.
In addition to mediation, Judge Darvas offers private arbitration services and consultations on pending litigation, drawing on her extensive judicial experience.
Judge Darvas was elected to the King County Superior Court in 2004. She retired in 2025, after 20 years on the bench. While on the court, she presided over hundreds of trials, including complex injury and death cases, insurance coverage claims, commercial, business, employment, land use, real estate, TEDRA, and family law cases, as well as serious felony cases. She conducted scores of settlement conferences after court hours, helping to facilitate settlements that met the parties' needs and goals without the expense and uncertainties of trial.
During her tenure as a trial judge, Judge Darvas was honored to receive the Cardozo Society's L'Dor V'dor ("from generation to generation") award in 2022, and the Washington State Association for Justice's Judge of the Year award in 2017.
Before joining the bench, Judge Darvas was an AV-rated lawyer in private practice. She handled litigation and trial of commercial and tort cases for 22 years and presented at over 50 continuing legal education seminars.
Judge Darvas completed the Strauss School of Law's Mediating the Litigated Case course at Pepperdine University. She received her Juris Doctor cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School and her B.S. in Zoology from the University of Michigan.
